Saving Moore Park Inc. Letter to the Premier - 22 March 2016
22 March 2016
The Hon. Mike Baird MP
Premier of New South Wales
Macquarie Street
Sydney NSW 2000
Dear Premier
Moore Park
I’ve just heard your comments on the Allianz Stadium redevelopment on ABC 702 this morning, in which you confirmed this would be on existing SCG land. This is, of course, consistent with your letter to me of 15th March.
I tried to ring in to ask you several questions, but was unable to get through. So I’d like to put these questions directly to you in writing.
Alone amongst government bodies in NSW, any development undertaken by the SCG Trust is exempt from the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the Local Government Act, so there is no opportunity for public consideration of anything it proposes.
Can you please advise me whether the stadium redevelopment will be subject to a business case that addresses such issues as its impact on traffic flows, the adequacy of public transport and parking facilities, environmental and heritage considerations and its impact on the local community?
And will the community have the opportunity to comment on this business case?
Last month the Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, in support of the SCG Trust taking over Moore Park, said that the existing arrangements were “a historical governance model that’s no longer delivering for the community”. Will you confirm that the CP&MP Trust will remain responsible for Moore Park?
As you know, the population density in the Waterloo – Zetland – Green Square area will rise sharply over the next decade, creating enormous demand for green space for active and passive recreation. Moore Park is best located to meet this need. Will you please confirm that the Government will not only preserve Moore Park in its entirety but will invest in it so it can meet these growing needs?
Yours sincerely
Michael Waterhouse
